A grooved front roller replaces the smooth standard roller on a Fortis. The grooves cut down the area of roller actually touching the ground, so less of the grass is pressed flat before it reaches the cutting cylinder and more of it is presented upright to the bottom blade.
The result is a more consistent cut, and it matters most when you are mowing short. At 20mm and above you will struggle to see the difference. At fine turf heights, where the roller is sitting almost on the crown of the plant, the grooved version is what stops the mower from ironing the lawn flat and skimming over it.
Fit it alongside a turf rake for the biggest improvement. Note that the 20FTB, 25FTB, 20FTE and 25FTE fine turf models already come with a grooved roller as standard.
