The HT2001E is the smallest and lightest of EGO's three hedge trimmer kits, at 2kg bare and 4kg with the 2.5Ah battery fitted. For most domestic gardens that is the right answer. It is built for narrow, small to medium hedges where you want a clean, defined line rather than raw cutting power, and the 51cm blade is short enough to stay controllable at arm's length.

Most people who come in for a hedge trimmer ask for the longest blade on the shelf, and most of them would be happier with this one. Blade length only helps if you are cutting long, flat runs. If your hedges are ordinary garden shrubs and boundary hedges, what decides whether the job is pleasant is how long you can hold the tool up, and 4kg is a genuinely different proposition from the 66cm HT2601E once you are working above shoulder height.

The trade-offs, plainly. The 25mm cutting capacity is the lowest of the three, so thick, neglected stems will stall it. And there is no rotating rear handle, so cutting the vertical faces of a hedge means twisting your wrist. If either of those describes your hedges, look at the HT2601E instead.

EGO rate it at up to 75 minutes on a full charge, and the 2.5Ah battery and standard charger supplied will run any other tool on the 56V platform. If you already own an EGO battery, the tool-only HT2000E is £179. EGO cover it with a 5-year domestic warranty, or 1 year in professional use.
