A turf rake fits ahead of the cutting cylinder and gently lifts and straightens the grass blades just before they reach it. Grass that has been flattened by the roller, by rain or by foot traffic gets stood up so the cylinder can cut it cleanly instead of riding over it.
The difference shows most on the second and third pass, where a lawn cut without a rake starts to look ragged and uneven. It also pulls up a modest amount of loose thatch as it works, though it is not a substitute for a scarifier cartridge.
This is one of the cheapest ways to improve the finish of a Fortis, and it stays on the machine rather than being swapped in and out. Note that the 20FTB, 25FTB, 20FTE and 25FTE fine turf models already include a turf rake as standard, so check your machine before ordering.
