The EGO LM1702ESP is the self-propelled version of the LM1701E: the same 42cm deck for a small to medium lawn, with rear-wheel drive doing the walking. It earns its money on a lawn with any slope, or if you'd rather not push a full grass box. The drive runs at variable speed, so you set the pace.
It comes with a 4Ah battery and standard charger, which EGO rate at up to 300m² or about 30 minutes of mowing. If your lawn is bigger than that, a second battery is worth having. Any EGO 56V pack fits, and the same battery runs EGO's trimmers, blowers and hedgecutters.
EGO have since replaced it with the LM1712ESP kit, which adds an LED dashboard and three blade speeds for a little more. If you don't need those, this is the simpler machine. The trade-off against the push LM1701E is weight: 24kg without the battery, which you'll notice lifting it into a car or shed. EGO back it with a five-year domestic warranty and the battery with three.
